James Fisher and KDM partner to launch mass flow excavation business

Marine services provider James Fisher and subsea excavations specialist KDM Marine have partnered to launch a dedicated mass flow excavation business to service offshore and subsea markets.

The firms will create a new business unit called James Fisher Mass Flow Excavation (JFMFE), combining the subsea excavation, de-burial and trenching capabilities of both organisations and offering the use of James Fisher’s HydroDigger and KDM’s TwinProp system.

The HydroDigger is a contactless mass flow subsea excavation system, which combines real-time sonar monitoring and variable excavation power to ensure precision during excavation projects within constrained areas and long distances.

The TwinProp works by channelling controllable columns of water towards the seabed to clear the likes of sand, silt and clay for pipeline and cable trenching, decommissioning and deburial purposes. The system can also be used for rock dump removal, sand wave levelling and seabed preparation.

The new venture will be managed day to day by the KDM executives with engineering, operations and maintenance support provided by James Fisher.
