When it comes to R&D, the offshore oil and gas decommissioning sector is parting the waves with state-of-the-art ROV, cutting and removal solutions, to meet the surge in idle iron removal in the Gulf of Mexico. Dan McCue reports.

Getting of glimpse of where the decommissioning sector’s innovations might be heading next is sometimes as difficult as scaling the wall of the research and development lab at Apple’s headquarters at 1 Infinite Loop.

Yet the absence of bells and whistles and “hey look at me” bombast ultimately proves encouraging. Far from suggesting research and development of subsea demolition and removal had fallen into a moribund state, there are a lot of good products on the market, and there’s still plenty out there to buzz about.

Following this, discussions further analysis deduced that the Asia Pacific decommissioning market had a value of well over $40 Billion.

Since this meeting the decommissioning industry in the Asia Pacific has boomed with over a Billion Dollars being spent on new projects over the past year. This has included projects across Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Australia, China, Thailand, Singapore, India and Japan.
